No interest in Too too. None. Even for league minimum. Canucks don't need another guy for the league to target.
Canucks should just trade them Edler for a package that includes Nygust(sp)

Adding Tootoo would definitely help the Canucks continue to be the most hated team in the NHL.

I think one of the elements that hold these deals up is that many teams want a shorter term so that said player is still an RFA at the end of the deal, rather than a UFA. I don't think it's as big a deal as you make it out to be, but that's just me.

This may sound dumb....Is it possible to sign a player to a one year deal then sign them to a contract extension the next day? In leafs case it would definitely help to keep that cap hit down for next year. Sign kadri and franson to one year 3 mill contracts then give them a long term contract with the money and term they want right after.

Agree, on Tutu, no thanks. Detroit made that bed, now they have to sleep in it. If the cap is a problem for Detroit, then offer sheet him for one year and $2.5m. They can always match but then they would be forced to move someone else...

Why would Kadri or Franson even consider this? Since they would be underpaid by at least 50% for one yr, would they leafs overpay them for the remainder of the contract?

Well I wouldn't say 50% lol but giving them a one year bridge and also giving them exactly want they'd want for a long term extension because of that would be way more of a risk for the leafs then the players I think.

what's the salary cap again? I forget...

Also... all the players you listed as "previous examples" are signigicantly better than EVERYBODY on the RFA list with exception of Pietrangelo.

Given the current market, Franson is worth 4.5(see Voynov and Josi) and Kadri is worth over 5.

this.

They are RFA's. and nobody is offersheeting anyone on that list, cause the team would match anything reasonable, or happily take the picks for unreasonable.

in a reduced cap world, teams can't overpay RFA's just to keep them happy when they have to overpay UFA's to get them to sign at all.

you think Kadri is worth $6M a year, and I'm not very bright?

seriously, open a window or something.

I believe that you can only negotiate a new contract when you are in the last year of the existing contract, so I think that technically this would be allowed. However, if you were to sign a player to a one year deal and immediately sign them to an 8 year extension the league may have an issue with that as circumventing the new 8 year contract max...?

This is simple math my friend. 50% overpaid is 4.5m not 6m. That is 100% overpaid.

guess Leaf fans aren't the only ones who overvalue Leaf players.

Who here would trade Voynov for Franson straight up if you're LA?
